The philosophy of this program is consistent with the other elementary grades and is a preparatory time to get children ready for the high school environment. The school day begins at 8:30 AM and concludes at 3:30 PM. Friday dismissal time is 2:30 PM.
Religion also has a similar philosophy as the previous grades. An in-depth study of the Old and New Testament including church history is studied over a three year period.
Along with general Mathematics we will be teaching Pre-Algebra and Algebra. The program selected for your child will foster growth in math and be appropriate for his/her ability.
Literature is another area that will be expanded. The children will be discussing all varieties of literature including short stories, poetry, and novels. Studies will include contemporary as well as earlier authors.
The Social Studies program will consist of one of the following topics: United States history, United States government, Arizona state government or world geography.
The Science subjects for a given year are earth science, life science and physical science depending on grade level. During their studies students will conduct science experiments relating to the subject matter.
Spelling and English follow the same intent of the previous grades, with grade appropriate skills emphasized.
The Music and Band Schedule will also be similar to that of the middle grades.
In the morning, the classes will rotate between the following subjects: literature/reading, language arts and math. During the rest of the day the class rotation has been set up to expose the student to a variety of subjects meeting every day for five weeks. Some of the subjects covered in a two year period are: computers, home environment and improvement, home economics, leadership, library skills, study skills, Spanish, music, and art.
